For many it’s ‘back to school’ this week, officially marking the end of the summer. Holidays are done and dusted and life returns to ‘normal’. Thoughts turn to the new season ahead and the big countdown begins…
But before we race ahead and rush headlong into autumn, we thought it worth reflecting on our summer as an air conditioning business. Boy has it been a hectic one!
As recently reported by the Met Office, this summer was the joint hottest on record with soaring temperatures throughout June and July. It didn’t exactly escape our notice and this year we have been met with unprecedented demand.
Over recent years we have seen a significant rise in the number of customers looking to install air conditioning in their homes. Air conditioning, once deemed to be a luxury purchase, is now more affordable and the equipment manufacturers are launching increasingly contemporary units in a range of styles and colours to suit most modern interiors.
The trend towards light, bright homes that literally bring the outside in, means utilising large expanses of glass. The results can be spectacular, but there may be the potential for overheating during the summer months. The good news is that air conditioning systems can usually be retro-fitted relatively easily. However, we recommend that if you are embarking on a bigger refurbishment project, it’s worth considering a concealed ducted system for a truly modern seamless look.
The summer has seen the Advantage team hard at work with a mix of both commercial and residential air conditioning installations, service and maintenance work. Our installations have come in all shapes and sizes, including offices and posh houses (glazing glazing and more glazing) to local estate agents (more big windows) and conservatory owners (boiling hot in summer, freezing cold in winter). Not all our customers have been human either! We have visited both Windsor and London’s Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, ensuring both staff and furries have kept their cool.
Routine maintenance work continues all year round and we’re delighted to report that, despite the record temperatures, we have had very few service calls from our regular customers. A great testament to our engineers, who work tirelessly to ensure equipment works optimally all year round. In contrast, service calls from new customers have generally been the result of very old, poorly maintained or undersized equipment.
