Is your air conditioning over 10 years old?

Old air conditioning?

If so, you may be affected by the R22 refrigerant ban which came into force on 1st January 2015.

The industry is highly regulated and refrigerant legislation is continually changing and innovating to increase energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. As part of this continual improvement, certain refrigerants are being phased out.

Good news for the planet but what does it mean for you?
R22 refrigerant, typically found in the majority of air conditioning equipment over 10 years old, is an HCFC with ozone depletion potential and legislation is now in place making it illegal to top up or replenish any air conditioning system with R22.

Whilst this doesn’t mean that you have to stop using equipment containing R22, it does mean that should your air conditioning develop a problem that affects any part of the system containing the refrigerant, then it may not be possible to repair the equipment.

There are a number of options available that may be suitable depending on your circumstances. These range from retrofit solutions using alternative HFC or natural refrigerants to replacing old air conditioning systems with new equipment.

New installations can provide much greater efficiency, lower running costs, a reduced carbon footprint, improved performance and reliability. Plus a manufacturer’s warranty of up to 5 years.

At Advantage Air Systems, we believe in adopting a holistic and sustainable approach to the R22 ban, giving consideration to your budget, lifetime costs, efficiency, usage and how business critical the current system is should it fail.
